For the seventh time the Italian Open was played in Lazio, hosted by the historic Marco Simone Golf & Country Club of Guidonia Montecelio (Rome) from 2 to 5 September.
The tournament, with a total final prize pool of 3,000,000 euros, was played on 72 holes (18 per day), on a completely renewed course. The 20-year-old Dane Nicolai Hojgaard won, closing with a decisive birdie on the final hole. He was able to celebrate his first career title on the European Tour. A curiosity: the week before, his twin brother had won at the Omega European Masters in Switzerland. Never before had twins won one event at the top continental men's golf circuit one after the other. Behind the Dane, the English Fleetwood and the Pole Merok with 272 hits (-12).
Behind the Dane, the English Fleetwood and the Pole Merok with 272 hits (-12). Among the Azzurri, the best was the Apulian Francesco Laporta who closed the tournament in fourth place with a total of 273 (-11), followed by another Italian, Edo Molinari (-10).
An extraordinary Edoardo Molinari enchanted the audience by creating a "hole in one" (at hole 7, par 3 of 219 yards, with a 5 iron) which earned him a DS4 E-Tense Business 225 hp offered by DS Automobiles, title sponsor of the 78th Italian Open.
The big news of the year was the return of the public, after the health emergency had forced the previous edition to take place behind closed doors. In full compliance with the anti-covid-19 regulations, admission was free during all four days of competition, until the maximum capacity allowed was reached.
This unique opportunity was welcomed by many people who thus had the pleasure of admiring the great golf champions and discovering the course of the Ryder Cup 2023. Marco Simone will host the prestigious international golf competition in 2023, as well as the 2022 Italy Open.
In order to celebrate the return of the spectators, the Open showed particular attention to the public, organizing many off-pitch initiatives, such as the Family Open. The official Ryder Cup trophy was also exhibited in a stand of the Italian Golf Federation, inside the Commercial Village.
Once again Parkforfun has been called upon to manage the mobility, parking and the large flow of spectators of this first major event open to the public. He managed with great professionalism 7 car parks (intended for players, staff, television operators, mass media, sponsors, guests, etc.), 10 shuttles that daily accompanied the public from the car park to the heart of the event, and every single access pass at the Marco Simone Golf Club (access was in fact allowed only by registering on the official website of the tournament, with the consequent issue of pass and QR code that allowed entry).
For the whole Parkforfun team (36 people) it was a unique experience. The desire and enthusiasm to get back on track made us forget the efforts and energies used to ensure that everything ran smoothly and in complete safety.
Franco Chimenti, President of the Italian Golf Federation: "We have come to the end of a special Italian Open that has sealed a historic restart phase of this sport. We open the doors to the Ryder Cup after admiring the extraordinary beauty of the new race track with the majesty of Rome in the background: this is a world excellence that is a source of pride for our nation. The tournament was a success from all points of view. Thanks to the Institutions, the Lazio Region, the Municipality of Rome, the Municipality of Guidonia Montecelio, the European Tour, the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, the Infront official advisor, the sponsors and all the professionals who contributed to the organization of the event. Appointment in 2022 when the Italian Open will return to this extraordinary game path again. Our journey towards the Ryder Cup comes to life and becomes more and more exciting”.
From 22 to 25 october 2020 the 77th edition of the Italian Open took place at Chervò Golf Club San Vigilio in Pozzolengo (Brescia). The English Ross McGowan returned to his previous glory by winning on the last hole the European Tour eleven years after his first time in Madrid Masters in 2009, thanks to two “miracles”, as the winner himself called them (hole 16 and 18). Joint winners in second place, the English Laurie Canter and the Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts. The best Italian was Guido Migliozzi (22nd position), author of the best partial of the day together with the Norwegian Kristoffer Reitan.
For the fifth year in a row, ParkForFun handled the mobility and the parkings, proving once more its ability to manage efficiently the first international covid-free event.
Without the presence of the public, ParkForFun monitored and handled the access to the location of the event of all the players, staff, TV operators, mass media, sponsor and guests through various checkpoints addressing each category to their reference area. At the entrance of the Chervò Golf Club San Vigilio, the first check was entrusted to the Will Call Station, where there was the chance to withdraw the pass for the vehicle and, for the guests, the personal badge to enter the hospitality area.
For all ParkForFun’s team have been days of hard work, but we are proud to have been part of this event and to have helped carry out the happening in complete safety.
Franco Chimenti, President of the Italian Golf Federation and Coni’s Deputy Vice President: “Organizing the Italian Open in such a delicate and complex situation looked impossible and inconceivable. The Italian Golf Federation made tremendous efforts in order to assure continuity to this prestigious tournament. Thanks to Lombardia Region, European Tour, Chervò Golf Club and its President Apicella and to Infront and all the sponsors, starting from DS Automobiles and Rolex, to have supported the outcome of the Italian Open, a tournament with a great tradition and an unmissable appointment in the European Tour calendar”.
The 76th edition of the Italian Open, after 4 editions in a row in Lombardia, came back to Lazio and took place in the wonderful scenery of the Golf Club Olgiata. In a spectacular but also complicated itinerary, the players have been challenged to win the appetizing prize of 7 million dollars of the fifth stage of the Rolex Series. The Austrian Bernd Wiesberger won the 2019 edition of the Italian Open, after him Matthew Fitzpatrick, leader of the competition for years, third position for Kurt Kitayama.
For this edition, ParkForFun handled the mobility and the parkings, confirming in this way once more the ability to manage the situation in an efficient way.
Danish Thorbjorn Olesen won, just a shot from Francesco Molinari which has proudly represented the Italian audience (with over 60,000 people) that came at Gardagolf County Club to follow 75th Open of Italy, a tournament of Rolex Series in the European Tour. It is the fundamental event for Project Ryder Cup 2022, which for the 2nd year in a row has put prize money of 7,000,000 dollars.
BusForFun was confirmed as mobility company for the 3rd year in a row, organising all the logistic aspect for the audience, the parking, the players and the caddies. With over 180 buses employed in 7 days, with 40 operators on the field.
